Launch of 26th Entrepreneurship Development & Investment Promotion Program from 12th May - 29th May. Kingdom of Bahrain: UNIDO through its ARCEIT started the twenty seventh EDIP for 16 potential entrepreneurs. The EDIP is organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry & Commerce, Bahrain Development Bank and with the support of the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society, the Bahrain Young Entrepreneurs Association and Al Ayam Newspaper.

Kingdom of Bahrain: UNIDO through its ARCEIT started on 16th March 2008 the twenty sixth EDIP for 18 potential entrepreneurs. The EDIP is organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry & Commerce, Bahrain Development Bank and with the support of the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society, the Bahrain Young Entrepreneurs Association and Al Ayam Newspaper.

◊ Completion of 25th Entrepreneurship Development & Investment Promotion Program from 23rd January - 1
Kingdom of Bahrain: Nineteen candidates successfully completed their EDIP on 10th February 2008. Most of the candidates of this program are in the second phase and are being counseled. There are select entrepreneurs close to their final stage of completing the business plan and starting their project implementation.

◊ Transferring the Enterprise Development & Investment Promotion Program to Iraq January 26th – Februa
Thirty four Iraqi experts in the field of small and medium enterprises development attended training from January 26th – February 7th 2008. The training of trainers program aimed at developing resource persons from Iraq who will manage and conduct the EDIP in their respective regions Baghdad, Kurdistan and Thi Qar Governorate. The overall funding of the EDIP implementation in Iraq is being fully covered by the Italian Government with a budget of 3.5 million Euros.

◊ 2nd Turkish Bahraini Entrepreneurs Forum
The Ministry of Industry & Commerce in cooperation with the UNIDO Investment & Technology Promotion Office Bahrain, the Small & Medium Industry Development Organization (KOSGEB), Turkey and the Bahrain Development Bank organized the 2nd Turkish – Bahraini Entrepreneurs Forum in January. The forum created a platform for 27 Turkish companies and 80 Bahraini entrepreneurs to conduct 205 one-to-one business meetings which resulted in the signing of 73 letters of intent (LoIs) with an estimated investment value of 38 Million US$.

◊ 3rd Water Middle East Expert Group Meeting
Fourteen water experts from the Arab region took part in the WMEGM from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan and Palestine). The WMEGM served as a follow-up to the recommendations previously adopted by the meetings held in 2004 and 2005 which addressed the theme of “Management of Water & Related Technologies” and “Water Technologies in Agriculture & Irrigation”.

Palestinian delegation were on a study tour to Bahrain in order to get acquainted with the Bahrain Model and the means of transferring it for implementation in Palestine together with a specialized Information Technology Incubator through the joint efforts of the Bahrain Development Bank and UNIDOs Arab Regional Center for Entrepreneurship & Investment Training.

In celebration of its 5th year after the Innuguration WomenGate under the patronage of Her Highness, Shaikha Sabika Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council of Women held a conference targeting women and enhancing their capabilities through information technology. UNIDO was an active stake holder in organizing conference that was held.

◊ Transferring the Bahrain-Arab Model to Palestine, Lebanon and United Arab Emirates
A capacity building program for the transfer of the Bahrain-Arab Model to Palestine and Lebanon was held. The program aimed at building the capacities of the participants and acquitting them with the functionality and the means of managing the Bahrain-Arab Model in their respective countries; in addition to providing them with the needed skills to provide effective business counseling.

The Twentieth Batch of EDP completed their training session on 8th March 2007. There were 18 candidates participating in the program and they present their group project idea for the Business Plan Competition which was held on the 18th of March.
