◊ Launch of 30th Entrepreneurship Development & Investment Promotion Program from 16th November - 3rd
UNIDO through its ARCEIT started on 16th November 2008 the Thirtieth EDIP for 18 potential entrepreneurs. The EDIP is organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry & Commerce, Bahrain Development Bank and with the support of the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society, the Bahrain Young Entrepreneurs Association and Al Ayam Newspaper.

◊ Developing Business Counselors in Sierra Leone
ITPO Bahrain organized the second phase of the capacity building interventions for the development of business counselors for the growth of SMEs in Sierra Leone. The program aims at equipping the participants with the needed skills and capacities required to assist potential entrepreneurs in developing their business plans in order to facilitate access to finance and attain early implementation of their private ventures.

◊ Third Entrepreneurship Development & Investment Promotion Program for Innovators
UNIDO through its Arab Regional Center for Entrepreneurship & Investment Training organized in cooperation with the Arab Science & Technology Foundation (ASTF) the Third Entrepreneurship Development & Investment Promotion Program for Innovators (EDIPI) held in Bahrain September 1st to September 11th, 2008. This program intends to train innovators on developing a professional business plan and assisting them in commercializing their technologies.

◊ ToT Egypt - July 2008
The ToT aims at transferring the UNIDO Enterprise Development & Investment Promotion Program to Egypt through the development of 20 SME experts on the methodology of managing and running the program to potential entrepreneurs.
The training took place in Egypt and was organised by UNIDO ITPO Bahrain.

◊ Encouraging SME Innovation and Growth: Increasing Capital Access - July 2 to 4 2008
The conference aims at addressing the means of developing innovation and attaining sustainable growth for SMEs; accordingly best practices will be shared on the means to achieving that through increased capital and investments.
Major topics: Tech-based SME Venture Capital, Government Support for SME Innovation, High Growth and Innovative SME Facility, Seed Investment by Technology Incubators, Informal Venture Capital and SMEs.
The conference took place in Guangzhou, China and UNIDO Bahrain will participate to the panel.

The Forum will encompass five sub-forums on: CIVILIZATIONS : 3rd yearly Forum on the Dialogue of Civilizations / WOMEN : Forum on “Women in Public Life” / SECURITY IN THE MEDITERRANEAN – MARITIME TRANSPORT : Special meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defense, Interior and Environment of the Mediterranean on “The Union for Mediterranean addressing Security issues” / MPs : 4th Meeting of the Members of National and European Parliaments / SOVEREIGN FUNDS : Forum on “A Challenge for the World Economy : the Sovereign Funds”.
UNIDO ITPO Bahrain participated in the conference held in Monte Carlo.

◊ Lebanese Bahraini Franchise Forum - 3rd week of June 2008
The Forum will present a platform for Lebanese Franchisors the possibility to discuss with local financial institutions means of accessing additional finance to their existing operations and promote their business concepts to potential investors form the region. Deliberate upon issues related to franchising i.e. institutionalizing the concept, access to finance, legal status and requirements, creating partnerships, technology transfer and market access.

◊ Transferring the Enterprise Development & Investment Promotion Program to Iraq January 26th – Februa
Thirty four Iraqi experts in the field of small and medium enterprises development attended training from January 26th – February 7th 2008. The training of trainers program aimed at developing resource persons from Iraq who will manage and conduct the EDIP in their respective regions Baghdad, Kurdistan and Thi Qar Governorate. The overall funding of the EDIP implementation in Iraq is being fully covered by the Italian Government with a budget of 3.5 million Euros.

◊ 2nd Turkish Bahraini Entrepreneurs Forum
The Ministry of Industry & Commerce in cooperation with the UNIDO Investment & Technology Promotion Office Bahrain, the Small & Medium Industry Development Organization (KOSGEB), Turkey and the Bahrain Development Bank organized the 2nd Turkish – Bahraini Entrepreneurs Forum in January. The forum created a platform for 27 Turkish companies and 80 Bahraini entrepreneurs to conduct 205 one-to-one business meetings which resulted in the signing of 73 letters of intent (LoIs) with an estimated investment value of US$38 Million.

◊ 3rd Water Middle East Expert Group Meeting
Fourteen water experts from the Arab region took part in the WMEGM from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan and Palestine). The WMEGM served as a follow-up to the recommendations previously adopted by the meetings held in 2004 and 2005 which addressed the theme of “Management of Water & Related Technologies” and “Water Technologies in Agriculture & Irrigation”.

A capacity building program for the transfer of the Bahrain-Arab Model to Palestine and Lebanon was held. The program aimed at building the capacities of the participants and acquitting them with the functionality and the means of managing the Bahrain-Arab Model in their respective countries; in addition to providing them with the needed skills to provide effective business counseling.
