Industrial Project Preparation And Appraisal (Basic Version)

» Background

Investment implies long term commitment of sizable amount of capital, made under conditions of uncertainty. Investors (both local/foreign and public/private) would need to be assured of the profitability of the investment before committing the resources. The investors therefore, need a transparent, well-researched and comprehensive investment study to make rational investment decisions, which will allow them to optimize the use of scarce resources. Success of investment depends to a large extent, on the quality of the investment study.

 

» Objectives

The training seminar focuses on strengthening individual capacity to identify, prepare and appraise investment projects. Upon completion of the course, participants will have obtained sound understanding of the advanced tools and techniques involved in industrial project preparation and appraisal.
 

 

» Faculty

Resource persons from The Arab Regional Center for Entrepreneurship and Investment Training, The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India will conduct the seminar, jointly.

 

 

» Participation

The seminar is open to officers from banks/ financial institutions, investment companies, consulting firms and the government, dealing with the project development cycle for investment projects including identification preparation and appraisal.

» Course Coverage

The basic training seminar will have a duration of two weeks (12 working days). During the first 8 days, the seminar will cover extensively the following modules:

 

• Project Development Cycle.

• Market Analysis.

• Technical Analysis(including environmental impact assessment).

• Financial Appraisal.

• Brief Overview of national cost-benefit analysis.

Application of Computer Model for Feasibility Analysis and Reporting (COMFAR) for financial appraisal will be covered during the last 4 days. This will include an overview of the software and its application in project appraisal. The participants will also be helped in learning the data entry procedures as well as on developing various financing schemes and their implications. Exposure will also be given to the use of COMF AR for appraisal of an expansion / modernization project. The participants will also receive the following as part of the training material:


• Manual for the Evaluation of Industrial Projects.

• Guide to Practical Project Appraisal -Social Benefit -Cost Analysis in Developing Countries.

• Manual for the Preparation of Industrial Feasibility Studies.
