Industrial Project Identification, Preparation and Appraisal (ADVANCED)

» Background

Investment implies long term commitment of a sizable amount of capital, made under conditions of uncertainty. Investors (both loca1/foreign and public/private) need to be assured of the profitability of the investment before committing their resources. The investors therefore, need transparent, well-researched and comprehensive investment studies to make rational investment decisions, which will allow them to optimize the use of scarce resources. Success of investment depends to a large extent, on the quality of the investment study.

 

» Objectives

The training seminar aims to deepen the skills of participants in the preparation and appraisal of investment projects in general and infrastructure projects in particular, and in applying the latest methodologies and tools for investment appraisal. On completion of the training program, the participants will be able to:

• Understand and apply the concepts of appraisal of expansion/rehabilitation projects.

• Understand and apply the concepts of economic cost-benefit analysis (value added and shadow pricing).

• Appraise relatively large-scale investment projects, particularly those in the infrastructure sector, in a comprehensive manner covering: financial and socio-economic dimensions.

» Faculty

Resource persons from The Arab Regional Center for Entrepreneurship and Investment Training, The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India will jointly conduct the seminar.

 

 

» Participation

The seminar is open to the officers from the banks/financial institutions, investment companies, consulting firms and the government, dealing with the project development cycle for investment projects.

» Course Coverage

The training seminar will have a duration of two weeks ( 10 Working days ). The seminar will extensively cover the following modules: • Overview of market and technical appraisal.

• Expansion/Rehabilitation projects.

• Risk analysis.

• Economic Cost-Benefit Analysis-Methods.

• Application of COMF AR III Expert software in project appraisal.

The participants are supplied with background material on topics covered during the seminar.

The training consists of theoretical presentations and practical exercises. Case studies are extensively used to enhance conceptual clarity.

NCBA: Value added approach: Valuation rules, efficiency tests, indices, principles of estimating national parameters.
