Developing Business Counselors for Growth of Small & Medium Enterprises
» Introduction The process of enterprise growth involves understanding the current performance of an enterprise (going beyond mere accounting figures), identifying the potential that the enterprise has for growth and accordingly formulating growth plans keeping in view the impact of external factors on such plans. While the entrepreneur understands his/her business best and hence can adopt systematic approach to growth, some external help is required. The entrepreneur has been accustomed to look at the enterprise in a particular manner whereas planned growth calls for a dispassionate analysis of the current business and its potential. A trained Business Counselor could effectively assist an entrepreneur in formulating and pursuing pragmatic plans for performance improvement and enterprise growth combining the business profiling skills of the former with the intimate knowledge of the enterprise on the latter’s part. Thus, creating a cadre of well-equipped Business Counselors leads to capacity building for assisting existing entrepreneurs.
